Coast Guard

Whether we talk about bandits, soldiers or the most dedicated fathers, all of them have one thing in common. They can't survive alone.

Beached

Washed ashore with only a radio, Violet instinctively tunes to channel one.
But only after getting chased back into the sea by a hungry walker.

On the waves she finds a friendly voice to guide her past the hordes to a safehaven.

Image

Reality is a harsh teacher and soon the risks and burdens of this desolate post-apocalyptic world bite Violet in the face.
She sneaks around the border wall, till the gate opens for a car and rushes inside Scarville, her last act while sanity is barred from her brain by the infection.

Image

Attracted by the succulent and young and strapping JTF grunts, she charges the most tasty-looking one.
They are forced to shoot her in the knee as she lurches forward, and then cure and heal her.
This all without asking for any compensation or hesitation.

Radio Relay Power

Scavaging the city the Secret Agent and Double-Vee find a studio with an antenna and dish on the roof.
Unfortunately, the controls are unpowered. It is ascertained the fuses are blown out.

After looting an old factory for fuses and a multimeter. On their way to resupply at Scarville, a convenient radio tower pleases their mood.
They are able to measure with the resistance setting on the multimeter, that the antenna wiring is intact and forming a circuit.
But that is about all that is operational on the antenna.
They are going to need a way to power it and operate it.

Man Overboard Procedure

Ship
  • Yell out "Man overboard!"
  • Aim to throw the lifebuoy next to the MOB
  • Assign a crewmate to keep eyes on the MOB at all times
  • Reduce speed to prevent a MOB prop-foul
  • Perform a Williamson turn to move to a down-wind position to approach MOB
  • Stop short and next to the MOB, taking into consideration wave and wind direction
  • Radio for assistance on VHF radio channel 16
If you are unable to lift the MOB over the freeboard and no crane is aboard, use the buoyancy of the water by pushing the MOB underwater and lift assisted by the momentum of the water pushing the MOB body up. This is extra effective on a MOB wearing a lifevest.

Swimmer
  • If your lifevest has not auto-inflated, pull the cord
  • If your lifevest has not fully inflated, blow on the tube
  • Do not swim, float in your original position anticipating recovery
  • Stay close to the wreckage and other MOBs
  • Check the signal light of your lifevest has activated
  • Check the use of radios and transponders
  • Stay warm

Hypothermia
  • Wrap survivor in thermal insulation
  • Do not shock the body with a hot shower or sudden drastic temperature increase
  • Warm the body gradually by taking off layers of wet clothing under a lukewarm shower
  • If no heating is available wrap the survivor with a another person in thermal insulation or a sleeping bag

Concussion
  • Keep person engaged in conversation until they recall basic details
  • Check responsiveness every few hours, even if the person is sleeping: wake them
  • Advice rest for 24 to 48 hours
  • Contact medical assistance in case of unresponsiveness

Power Panel Prodding

The Secret Agent and Double-Vee scout around the radio tower to install the panel.
Unfortunately, it seems the roof of a nearby house is the only option.
But they can't get the panel up there by hand.

Image

For now they stash the panel safely in a nearby garage.
